Robson's new deal at Newcastle

Newcastle United FC manager Sir Bobby Robson has agreed a contract extension until the end of 2004/05.

Replaced Gullit
Robson, who signed the new deal in the past few days, has been with Newcastle since autumn 1999 when he replaced Ruud Gullit. He took the Tynesiders to the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League last season and this term they have advanced to the fourth round of the UEFA Cup, where they defend a 4-1 first-leg lead away to RCD Mallorca tonight.

Career
Robson, now 71, has had a long and successful coaching career, which has included spells with Ipswich Town FC, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Clube de Portugal, FC Porto and FC Barcelona. He was England manager from 1982-90, a period which culminated in England reaching the FIFA World Cup semi-finals in 1990.
