Láinez on the sidelines

Real Zaragoza goalkeeper César Láinez is facing a month on the sidelines after knee surgery.

Real Zaragoza goalkeeper César Láinez will be out of action for up to a month after undergoing keyhole surgery to remove a blood clot from his knee.

Previous operation
Surgeons discovered a small tear to a vein in the 27-year-old's left knee following a separate operation to remove a foreign body from his knee last month. Particles of coagulated blood had been left inside the knee but there were no signs of infection. Medical staff have not set a date for Láinez's return although a month's absence is standard after surgery of this type.

No date set
Second-choice goalkeeper Luis García, who joined Zaragoza from CD Numancia recently, will deputise for Láinez. The 25-year-old made his debut in the goalless draw against Málaga CF on Sunday and will start tomorrow's UEFA Cup first-round tie against SK Sigma Olomouc.
