The 22-year-old will join Schalke immediately after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed transfer fee. Schalke had already agreed terms with the player and were keen to bring him in for the second half of the season, rather than wait until the summer.

Azaouagh, currently recovering from a knee injury which has sidelined him for most of this season, has signed a contract until the summer of 2009. "We are extremely pleased with the deal. Mimoun Azaouagh is a huge talent and we all hope that he will continue to develop.
Versatile
"He can play almost anywhere in midfield and that obviously increases our options," said Schalke manager Rudi Assauer. Azaouagh is eligible to be registered for the UEFA Cup, a competition where the Bundesliga club will face FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the last 32 in February.
