Athens calls for Wooter

Panathinaikos FC have signed Dutch midfield player Nordin Wooter from Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta FC.

Initial contract
The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on an initial 18-month deal with the Greek champions, with the option of two further yearly contracts after the former expires. The Athens club are thought to have paid €130,000 for Wooter, and have also agreed to play Anorthosis in a friendly game in Cyprus in the summer.

Eager player
"I am very glad to have signed for Panathinaikos and I am eager to help my new team win titles," Wooter said. "It's an honour for me to be playing for such a great team."

Wandering winger
Right-sided winger Wooter started out at AFC Ajax's youth academy and was promoted to the senior team during the 1994/95 season. His career has seen him travel throughout Europe, with spells at Real Zaragoza in Spain, Watford FC in England, RBC Roosendaal in the Netherlands, SC Braga in Portugal, and Anorthosis.

Athens goal
Notably, he scored against Panathinaikos for Ajax in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 1995/96, as the Dutch side overcame their Greek hosts 3-0 in the second leg in Athens to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Winter signings
Wooter is Panathinaikos's fourth winter signing following the arrivals of Manolis Roumbakis from OFI Crete FC, Constantinos Charalambides from APOEL FC and Anderson de Lima Freitas from Halkidona FC.
