Sammer happy as Elson signs

'Great potential'
Elson joins for an undisclosed fee and has penned a contract until 2009. The 23-year-old made 30 league appearances for Palmeiras in the 2004 season, scoring three goals. "He is a young midfielder with great potential," said Matthias Sammer, the Stuttgart coach.

Eligible for Europe
Stuttgart had been watching the player for some time and the club's sporting manager, Herbert Briem, added: "He is a technically strong player who can help our attacking midfield play." He will be eligible for the UEFA Cup where Stuttgart face Parma FC in the last 32 next month.
