The 24-year-old Dutch international injured his left ankle in the 4-2 defeat by AFC Ajax two weeks ago, and medical examinations have revealed a tear in the joint which requires immediate surgery to remedy.
Injured trio
Alkmaar, who visit Sporting Clube de Portugal for Thursday's UEFA Cup semi-final first leg, have already lost Dutch internationals Martijn Meerdink and Joris Mathijsen for the season due to knee injuries, with the duo not expected back for up to eight months.
