Okon takes APOEL opportunity

APOEL FC have shown their intent ahead of the UEFA Cup draw by signing former Australia midfielder Paul Okon.

Varied career
The 33-year-old former Socceroos captain has had a varied career, playing in England for Leeds United AFC, Middlesbrough FC and Watford FC and in Italy with S.S. Lazio, ACF Fiorentina and Vicenza Calcio. He comes to APOEL on a free transfer from Belgian second division side KV Oostende, replacing departing Englishman Chris Bart-Williams.

UEFA Cup entry
APOEL, Cypriot runners-up in 2004/05, will begin their tenth UEFA Cup campaign against a team from either Malta, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Albania, Andorra or San Marino.
