Vachoušek sticking with Austria

FK Austria Wien have landed Štepán Vachoušek on a permanent three-year deal from Olympique de Marseille.

Disappointing end
The 25-year-old Czech international midfielder helped Austria to the top of the Bundesliga table by mid-April, only then to suffer a serious injury to his right knee. As a result, he missed the title run-in as Austria fell away to finish third, qualifying for the UEFA Cup.

Back on track
The former SK Slavia Praha player, capped 22 times, had joined Marseille in June 2003 but failed to hold down a regular place in the south of France. His career revived a year ago when he featured in the Czech Republic squad at UEFA EURO 2004™ before agreeing a loan move to the Austrian capital. He played 23 games, and helped the club to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals, before injury struck on 23 April.

New arrivals
Austria have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing Slovenia captain Nastja Ceh, Slovakia Under-21 striker Filip Šebo and Poland midfielder Arek Radomski. They will enter the UEFA Cup in the second qualifying round, to be played over two legs on 11 and 25 August.
