Trapattoni seeks Stuttgart bite

VfB Stuttgart coach Giovanni Trapattoni is hoping his side can show more aggression as they seek victory against FC Shakhtar Donetsk.

Lack of edge
The Bundesliga team were held to a 3-3 home draw with Hertha BSC Berlin on Saturday, despite looking well-placed midway through the second half, and Trapattoni is keen for his players to show more cutting edge. "We must be more determined than in the draw against Hertha when we took a 2-1 lead and suddenly found ourselves trailing by a goal," he said. "We have to be cleverer when ahead."

Hildebrand hampered
Stuttgart go into the game without injured Daniel Bierofka, while goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand remains doubtful with a virus that sidelined him at the weekend. Dirk Heinen enjoyed a rare outing against Hertha, and could make it two in five days as the German outfit look to add to their 2-0 victory at Stade Rennais FC on Matchday 1. "We'll be up against a very experienced side," Trapattoni continued. "We must show the same patience we did in Rennes when we scored two late goals. We cannot afford any lapse in concentration."

Aghahowa out
Ukrainian champions Shakhtar also won their group opener, 1-0 against PAOK FC, and coach Mircea Lucescu wants another three points at the Gottlieb-Daimler stadium. "I'm going to Stuttgart to win," Lucescu said. "We have everything to do it." Everything except striker Julius Aghahowa, who is recovering from injury. Lucescu is undeterred, however: "Cacau and Mario Gómez were key for Stuttgart on Saturday, as was Danijel Ljuboja, but they were playing without Hildebrand and they will miss him against us."
