Impact
The 39-year-old former Hamburg player and German international replaced Klaus Toppmöller at the AOL Arena in October 2004 and within five weeks had penned a new deal such was his impact. Both club and coach have continued to make progress this term, with Hamburg lying second behind Bayern going into the Bundesliga break.
Thun test
Hamburg are also advancing on other fronts. They will face FC Thun in the UEFA Cup Round of 32, and more pressingly, meet Bayern in the last 16 of the German Cup on Wednesday. "Everyone knows I'm enjoying myself here and that's why I was happy to extend my contract," Doll said. Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffmann added: "Thomas brings good fortune to HSV and we're all delighted to continue this association."
