Robert gives Betis a boost

Real Betis Balompie have reacted to their injury problems by taking Brazilian forward Robert on loan from PSV Eindhoven until the end of the season.

Striking options
The 24-year-old will add extra firepower to the Betis forward line with Ricardo Oliveira still on the sidelines with a serious knee injury. Robert made four appearances for PSV in the UEFA Champions League group stage but could still be registered by Betis in their forthcoming UEFA Cup campaign, after they failed to match PSV's achievement in Europe's premier club competition.

Alkmaar test
Under new UEFA regulations this season, clubs can exceptionally register one additional player who has already played in European competition from the Round of 32 onwards, provided the new team is taking part in a different UEFA competition. Betis will meet AZ Alkmaar over two legs, with the Dutch club sure to provide a stiff test after reaching last year’s semi-finals.

Another leaving
Meanwhile, PSV have also allowed Argentinian midfielder Osmar Ferreyra to return to CA River Plate in his homeland. The Dutch champions had taken Ferreyra on loan from PFC CSKA Moskva and could still bring him back to Eindhoven next summer. The 20-year-old described his spell with PSV as a “unique experience” but said he needed to be playing games.
