Third time unlucky for Altıntop

FC Schalke 04's Turkish international midfielder Hamit Altıntop will sit out the UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie against RCD Espanyol with a thigh injury.

The 23-year-old Turkish international damaged his right thigh in training today and will definitely miss the first leg against the Spanish side in Gelsenkirchen on 15 February. For Altıntop, it is the third muscle-related injury of a season in which he has made 16 Bundesliga appearances. "We have to take him out of training and then build him up slowly," said Schalke club doctor Thorsten Rarreck. "We also have to take a close look at him to find out why he is getting these injuries."
