The holders PFC CSKA Moskva will hand over the UEFA Cup trophy to the Dutch city of Eindhoven on Friday 17 March ahead of the draws for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the competition.
Van Breukelen involved
It will be the first time the draws for the latter stages of the UEFA Cup have been held in the host city of the final, with the showpiece due to be played at the PSV Stadion on Wednesday 10 May. UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson will conduct the draw at the Evoluon Conference Centre (13.00CET start) in tandem with one of the Netherlands' most renowned former goalkeepers, Hans van Breukelen, who is acting as an ambassador for this year's final. No teams will be seeded, and clubs from the same national association may meet each other.
CSKA, who defeated Sporting Clube de Portugal in last season's final in Lisbon, will return the trophy to Mr Olsson who will then hand it to the Mayor of Eindhoven, Alexander Sakkers, for safekeeping until the final. Among the distinguished guests attending the ceremony will be players from the PSV Eindhoven team that won the UEFA Cup in 1978.
Media representatives wishing to attend the draw and the handover ceremony must apply directly to UEFA via the on-line accreditation service on uefa.com. Click here.
