Former UEFA Cup winners IFK Göteborg will start their 2006/07 campaign against Derry City FC after today's draw for the first qualifying round in Nyon, Switzerland.
Past glory
The Swedish side, who lifted the trophy in 1986/87 following a 2-1 aggregate victory against Dundee United FC, are among 70 clubs involved in the ties to be played over two legs on 13 and 27 July. The winners will progress to the second qualifying round where they will be joined by a further 29 teams, including the eleven UEFA Intertoto Cup winners. This draw will be made in Nyon on 28 July.
Big names
The 32 survivors of the second qualifying round on 10 and 24 August will advance to the first round proper, to be staged over two legs on 14 and 28 September, where 48 other clubs will lie in wait, featuring holders Sevilla FC and the 16 sides eliminated in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The first-round winners will participate in the UEFA Cup group stage.
