Defender Ryan Nelsen has agreed a new four-year contract with UEFA Cup hopefuls Blackburn Rovers FC.
The 28-year-old New Zealand captain has impressed for the English Premiership club since arriving from US Major League Soccer team DC United in January 2005. The centre-back made 31 appearances in Blackburn's run to sixth place last season. Capped 34 times by his country, with seven goals, Nelsen suffered a broken leg in April which curtailed his campaign, but he is expected to return for Blackburn's UEFA Cup first-round tie on 14 and 28 September.
