Blackburn close on Ooijer deal

PSV Eindhoven's André Ooijer is on his way to Blackburn Rovers FC after the Premiership side agreed a fee in the region of €3.1m for the Dutch international defender.

'Real asset'
The 32-year-old is expected to sign a two-year contract at Ewood Park, subject to a medical, following his withdrawal from PSV's Eredivisie game against NEC Nijmegen last Sunday. "He indicated he was not mentally fit and felt incapable of playing," said PSV coach Ronald Koeman. The Dutch champions' loss - Ooijer has made 192 league appearances for the Philips Stadion club - could be Blackburn's gain according to their manager Mark Hughes: "We have been looking to add to our central defensive options all summer. Ooijer has great experience. He has played at the highest level and would be a real asset."
