Midfielder Jérôme Leroy is to join Stade Rennais FC after being released by fellow French UEFA Cup contenders FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Monday signing
A statement from Rennes read: "Our new signing will join us on Sunday night. After a medical and a signing ceremony he will take off with his team mates for a training camp." The club expect the player to "ink his contract" on Monday, although everything is confirmed. The 32-year-old left Sochaux in the summer after scoring three goals in 30 league games and winning the French Cup in his only season at the club.
Seventh club
Rennes - who finished fourth in Ligue 1 to qualify for the first round of the UEFA Cup - will be Leroy's seventh club. The playmaker, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, started his career at Paris Saint-Germain FC and has also represented Stade Lavallois Mayenne FC, Olympique de Marseille, EA Guingamp, RC Lens and Beitar Jerusalem FC. Rennes have already signed goalkeepers Patrice Luzi and Fabrice Catherine as well as Petter Hansson and Mickaël Pagis.
