'Months out'
The English Under-21 international was hurt last night in the early stages of a 1-1 friendly draw at Preston North End FC. Following treatment on the pitch, the 19-year-old was carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital. Vaughan will definitely sit out the pre-season tour to the United States but Everton are more concerned that he will miss the Premier League kick-off on 11 August and even the UEFA Cup first round when it gets under way on 20 September. Alan Irvine, the Everton assistant manager, said: " "It will be months rather than weeks with James - a couple of months I should expect."
