Tomáš Ujfaluši says he is not ready for ACF Fiorentina's UEFA Cup campaign to end as the Italian side take on PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands for a semi-final place.
Optimism
PSV returned from the first leg in Tuscany last week with a creditable 1-1 draw, and with many suggesting that will prove a sizeable stride towards the last four. But if the Viola are supposed to be approaching the return match with a sense of trepidation, nobody told defender Ujfaluši. "We obviously have to take care because PSV are a strong side but we are optimistic," said the former Hamburger SV man, now in his fourth season in Serie A. "We know what we can do and if we make sure we are better organised than in the first leg, then I think we will win."
Experience
Ujfaluši has missed just one match of Fiorentina's UEFA Cup adventure and he is hungry for more. "These are great games to play in and I have really enjoyed the experience," said the 30-year-old. "I don't want it to end in EindhovenI don't want it to end in Eindhoven." With 66 Czech Republic caps under his belt, mostly at centre-half, Ujfaluši has savoured the big stage before. He usually adopts the right-back position for the Viola, and though he was a notable absence in the 2-0 victory over Reggina Calcio on Sunday, the player insists he has a clean bill of health. "I wasn't injured, just a bit tired," he said. "It's been a long season. Now I feel completely rested and physically fine. I'm definitely ready for the PSV game."
No penalties
PSV booked their place in the last eight after a thrilling penalty shoot-out against Tottenham Hotspur FC, while Fiorentina required spot-kicks to overcome Everton FC. With this quarter-final delicately balanced going into the second leg, there is a chance the outcome could once more come down to penalties. Have Ujfaluši and his team-mates been practising? "I don't even want to think about it," he said, as he neatly side-stepped the question. "We won't need them. We'll win 1-0 in normal time."
