The UEFA Cup second qualifying round draw takes place from 13.00CET at UEFA headquarters following the conclusion of the first qualifying round on Thursday.

The 37 winners will be joined by 27 clubs entering the competition at this stage, including eleven advancing from the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The 32 survivors of the second qualifying round on 14 and 28 August will go into the first round proper, scheduled for 18 September and 2 October, where 48 other teams will lie in wait, including six-time European champions AC Milan and 16 sides eliminated in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. The first-round winners will participate in the UEFA Cup group stage.
Geographical draw
Friday's proceedings at UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland, will be conducted by UEFA General Secretary David Taylor and Giorgio Marchetti, director of competitions. The 64 clubs will be split into three subdivisions – Southern, Central-East and Northern – with an equal number of teams seeded and unseeded in accordance with UEFA coefficient rankings. Sides from the same country cannot be drawn against each other. The final will be played at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul on 20 May 2009.
