Everton FC will sign free agent Lars Christian Jacobsen on a one-year contract after passing a medical on Tuesday morning.

Capped 16 times by Denmark, the 28-year-old right-back becomes the Premier League club's first summer signing after been given the all-clear by the medical staff, although Everton manager David Moyes did turn Steven Pienaar's loan move into a permanent transfer. Jacobsen played seven times in the Bundesliga for relegated 1. FC Nürnberg last term, after three and a half seasons at FC København which yielded 103 league appearances. He began his top-class career in 1996 with Odense BK, enjoying six campaigns with the Danish side before landing at Hamburger SV and then København. Everton, fifth in England last term, will enter the UEFA Cup first round – the draw for which takes place on Friday from 13.00CET.
