Danish international Lars Jacobsen may have to wait four months to make his Everton FC debut after dislocating his shoulder during his country's midweek victory in Portugal.
'Three or four months'
The right-back was injured in the first half of Denmark's 3-2 FIFA World Cup qualifying win in Lisbon on Wednesday. Jacobsen, whom Everton signed on a free transfer on 26 August, returned to the Premier League club for tests on his shoulder, which showed that he requires surgery. "We didn't get good news on Lars," said Toffees manager David Moyes. "He will need an operation that will keep him out for three or four months. He was just beginning to settle and we were looking forward to using him."
No debut
Jacobsen was an unused substitute in the Merseysiders' last Premier League game – a 3-0 home defeat by Portsmouth FC – before starting both of Denmark's World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Portugal. The former Odense BK, Hamburger SV, FC København and 1. FC Nürnberg player had been expected to feature in his new club's match at Stoke City FC on Sunday. Everton launch their UEFA Cup campaign against Belgian champions R. Standard de Liège, with the first round first leg at Goodison Park on 18 September.
