NEC Nijmegen have put thoughts of their decisive Matchday 5 game with Udinese Calcio on ice following their shock late win at FC Spartak Moskva on Wednesday, with coach Mario Been saying: "First we are going to celebrate."

'A spectacle'
Having gone a goal down after two minutes, NEC looked to be heading out of the UEFA Cup until Jhon van Beukering and Lasse Schöne scored in the final six minutes to leave them third in Group D, needing a win at home against an already-qualified Udinese to guarantee a place in the Round of 32. "Gee, that's going to be a spectacle," said Been as he looked ahead to the game at De Goffert on 18 December. "But let's not think about that too soon. First we are going to celebrate."

Half-time gloom
The mood after the final whistle at the Luzhniki Stadium was in stark contrast to that in the NEC dressing room at half-time. "Our tactical plan for this match was ready to be thrown in the waste bin after two minutes, just because we didn't do the things we were supposed to do," said Been. "Such failings already cost us valuable points at Dinamo Zagreb earlier on, so at half-time therefore I was really annoyed."

'We can compete'
The coach turned that anger into decisive action, bringing on attacking players Van Beukering, Collins John and Rutger Worm in the second half. "We did that to get a result, and that is what happened," he said. "Looking at the whole match we are deserved winners. We proved we have resilience and that we can play football. When you are the better team over 90 minutes against Spartak, then you have quality. We can compete in this group. We only came up short against Tottenham, so I am a very proud and satisfied coach."
