UEFA Cup winners in 2003/04, Valencia CF may feel they have the upper hand as they head into the deciding leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie against FC Dynamo Kyiv, having earned a 1-1 draw in the first act in Ukraine.

• Artem Milevskiy equalised for Dynamo after David Silva had given Unai Emery's side an early lead.

• The first leg was the two sides' debut meeting in European club competition.

• Prior to this season, Dynamo had played 21 games against Spanish teams, including a 3-0 victory over Club Atlético de Madrid in Lyon in the final of the 1985/86 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

• Dynamo's overall record against clubs from Spain now reads W5 D8 L9. In ten away matches against Spanish sides they have recorded W1 D3 L6.

• Dynamo have now gone nine European games without a win against Liga representatives.

• Before this season, Valencia's only experience of Ukrainian opposition consisted of two UEFA Champions League group-stage fixtures against Dynamo's fierce rivals FC Shakhtar Donetsk. They beat Mircea Lucescu's side 2-0 at home and drew 2-2 in Ukraine in the 2006/07 edition of the élite competition.

• Former Dynamo striker Oleg Salenko, who top scored for Russia at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals with six goals, also played for Valencia in 1994/95.

• Dynamo coach Yuri Semin was in charge of previous club FC Lokomotiv Moskva for eight games against Spanish sides. His overall record in those encounters reads W1 D2 L5, with the four away matches ending W0 D1 L3.

• The first leg was Valencia coach Emery's first game against Ukrainian opposition.

• Valencia are unbeaten in their last nine European games since going down 2-0 at home against Rosenborg BK in last season's UEFA Champions League group stage. They have not lost in seven European game since Emery took charge.

• Valencia have won only one of their last six European home games, drawing three and losing the other two.

• Dynamo have lost only once in five UEFA club competition matches away from home this season. They picked up three wins and a draw on their travels before going down 1-0 at Arsenal FC in UEFA Champions League Group G.

• Valencia have been involved in four penalty shoot-outs in UEFA club competition, winning two and losing two. None of those spot-kick deciders have been at the Mestalla. Two, of which they won one and lost one, were in finals held on neutral territory, while the remaining win and loss took place away from home.

• Valencia beat Arsenal 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw to win the 1979/80 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in Brussels, but lost 5-4 on spot-kicks after drawing 1-1 with FC Bayern München in the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League final in Milan.

• Dynamo won their only UEFA club competition shoot-out to date, beating AC Sparta Praha 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate result in the second qualifying round of the 1998/99 UEFA Champions League.

• Runners-up in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, Dynamo finished third in UEFA Champions League Group G to reach the UEFA Cup Round of 32. Valencia, winners of the Copa del Rey in 2007/08, were second in UEFA Cup Group G.

• Fernando Morientes is Valencia's top European scorer this season with three goals.

• Olexandr Aliyev will be available for Dynamo after being suspended for the first leg, but Milevskiy – Dynamo's top European scorer this season with two goals – is banned after being sent off against Valencia. Badr El Kaddouri and Andriy Nesmachniy are also within a booking of a lay-off.

• Valencia's David Albelda is suspended while Hugo Viana and David Villa are all within a booking of a one-match ban.

• The winners of this tie will take on UC Sampdoria or FC Metalist Kharkiv in the Round of 16 on 12 and 18/19 March, and will play the first leg at home.

• Should Dynamo and Metalist both progress, it would be the first time two Ukrainian sides have met in UEFA club competition.
