Club captain David Jarolím has extended his contract with UEFA Cup semi-finalists Hamburger SV for two years until summer 2012.
Reliable performer
"I'm delighted I will continue my journey at HSV," Jarolím said. "I am very happy here and the club's development has been constant." The 29-year-old Czech Republic midfielder, who joined Hamburg from 1. FC Nürnberg six years ago, has missed just two Bundesliga games this season while also taking part in 12 UEFA Cup matches.
'Role model'
The club's coach Martin Jol, who recently described Jarolím as being part of the "backbone of the team", added: "I am very happy that he will stay. Not all skippers are as good a role model as him." Hamburg meet northern rivals Werder Bremen in the semi-finals of the German Cup on Wednesday before playing them again in the last four of the UEFA Cup on 30 April and 7 May.
