FK Austria Wien's UEFA Europa League preparations have received a significant blow after it was confirmed that forward Rubin Okotie will be out for the rest of the year with knee cartilage damage.
Sidelined
The 22-year-old Austrian international suffered the knock to his right leg in Austria Wien's play-off return against FC Metalurh Donetsk on 27 August and, having earlier equalised, was withdrawn midway through the second half. The home side went on to win 5-4 on aggregate after extra time and claimed a group-stage place, though Pakistan-born Okotie is unlikely to play any part after two independent examinations confirmed the extent of his injury.
Composure
"This is not an easy situation for him, but upon hearing the news he was very composed," said Austria Wien chairman Thomas Parits. "I am very optimistic that he will be able to undergo preparations for the second half of the season during the winter break." Okotie, who has scored four goals in as many league outings this season, will also miss the Austrian national team's four remaining 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
