Midfielder Koen Daerden has followed in his father's footsteps by signing for R. Standard de Liège, the 27-year-old moving from fellow UEFA Europa League hopefuls Club Brugge KV for an undisclosed fee.

Peripheral role
Daerden has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Standard, for whom father Jos played for between 1980 and 1984. The nine-cap Belgian international featured in three UEFA Europa League group stage games for Brugge in the first half of the season, but has made just three Eerste Klasse appearances since October. His new side finished third in UEFA Champions League Group H and now face FC Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, while Brugge tackle Valencia CF. Adrie Koster's team are second in Eerste Klasse, three points behind leaders RSC Anderlecht, with Standard in eighth, 17 points off the pace.
