FC Porto have signed Brazilian forward Walter, paying Uruguayan side CA Rentistas €6m for a player who was on loan in his native country with SC Internacional.
Walter will move to Porto on a five-year contract after the Portuguese Liga outfit took a 75% share in the striker from Rentistas – the club that owned him but for which he never played. The 21-year-old has instead spent the last two seasons loaned to Porto-Alegre-based Internacional.
Groomed at another Brazilian team, EC São José, Walter caught the eye in helping Brazil win CONMEBOL's Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20 in 2009 – South America's Under-20 championship. His five goals in Venezuela made him the tournament's joint-top scorer.
He joins fellow Porto newcomers João Moutinho, James Rodríguez, Sereno, Emídio Rafael, Souza and Paweł Kieszek as the Dragons prepare to start their UEFA Europa League campaign in next month's play-offs.
