Beşiktaş shorn of Quaresma

Beşiktaş JK winger Ricardo Quaresma will be out of action for a month after tearing a muscle in his right thigh during Thursday's 2-1 UEFA Europa League win at SK Rapid Wien.

The 27-year-old was substituted after 32 minutes of the Vienna victory – the Istanbul team's second straight success in Group L –and is now expected to miss Beşiktaş's next European outing, at home to former club FC Porto on 21 October.

The injury also deprives Quaresma of the chance to link up with Portugal for the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers against Denmark and Iceland. The ex-Porto schemer had returned to the national-team fold after an exile of nearly two years for last month's Group H matches against Cyprus and Norway.

Quaresma, signed from FC Internazionale Milano in the summer, had played in all eight of the Black Eagles' European games this term, scoring three times, in addition to making five Turkish Super League appearances.
