Vučević takes temporary command at Hajduk

Goran Vučević insisted he would soon be "going back to the youth teams" after coming in as a temporary replacement for dismissed HNK Hajduk Split coach Stanko Poklepović.

Goran Vučević has replaced Stanko Poklepović as coach of UEFA Europa League contenders HNK Hajduk Split following a run of three defeats.

Following the Matchday 3 loss at FC Zenit St. Petersburg, Poklepović's side went down 2-1 at HNK Cibalia and then 1-0 at home against NK Istra 1961 in the Croatian Cup. Joško Španjić oversaw Saturday's 2-1 victory against NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac, though 39-year-old Vučević now takes the helm until Hajduk decide on a permanent successor for the experienced Poklepović, 72.

"I accepted the offer so from Sunday I am the new coach, but only for a while," said one-time Hajduk midfielder Vučević, who led the club for the first 12 rounds of the 2008/09 season before resigning. "I will be in charge until the board find a new coach, for the next two, maybe three games: but there is no way I will be here any longer. I will be going back to the youth teams." His assistant will be Zlatko Vujović, a Hajduk striker from 1976 to 1986.

Hajduk, who lie third in qualifying Group G with three points, play host to Zenit in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
