FC Twente host FC Rubin Kazan holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg as two sides that competed in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage aim for the UEFA Europa League round of 16.

• The first leg, initially scheduled to be played in Kazan, was moved to Moscow. Theo Janssen teed up Luuk de Jong to head in on 77 minutes, and while De Jong was denied by Giedrius Arlauskis from a corner late on, skipper Peter Wisgerhof was first to the rebound for Twente.

Previous meetings
• This is the clubs' first tie in Europe and also both sides' maiden contest against a team from their opponents' home country.

• The 27 games between sides from these two nations in UEFA club competition have seen 12 wins for the Russian teams, seven draws and eight Dutch wins. In the Netherlands, the hosts have secured the record W4 D4 L5 against Russian visitors.

Match background
• Twente drew all three of their UEFA Champions League group stage home matches in the autumn, but have lost only once in their last nine continental games in Enschede, 1-0 to Fenerbahçe SK in last season's UEFA Europa League group stage.

• Prior to the first leg, a 2-0 UEFA Champions League group stage success at SV Werder Bremen was Twente's only success in their previous six European away fixtures.

• Rubin have gone six games without a European away victory since a sensational 2-1 win at FC Barcelona in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League group stage. In the course of those away trips, they have scored just once, though they have earned two 0-0 draws.

• Before hosting the first leg, Rubin were unbeaten in ten European home matches since going down 1-0 to Parma FC in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup first round. However, that run included seven draws (three 1-1s and four 0-0s).

Team facts
• Rubin are the least experienced side in the round of 32; this will be their 28th UEFA club competition fixture.

• Prior to this tie, Twente coach Michel Preud'homme's only previous game against Russian opposition as a coach ended in a 3-0 defeat at FC Zenit St Petersburg for his R. Standard de Liège side in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup.

• As a goalkeeper, Preud'homme played in two wins against FC Lokomotiv Moskva with SL Benfica in the 1996/97 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

• The overall winners will take on the victors in the tie between BSC Young Boys and FC Zenit St Petersburg in the round of 16 on 10 and 17 March, playing the first leg at home.
