Sporting Clube de Portugal have continued their extensive summer recruitment drive by paying Sevilla FC €3.5m for winger Diego Capel.

In penning a five-year contract with the Lisbon outfit, the 23-year-old has become the 12th player to join Domingos Paciência's team this pre season. Since finishing third in the Portuguese Liga last term, the Lions have signed André Carrillo, Alberto Rodríguez, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Oguchi Onyewu, Stijn Schaars, Santiago Arias, Marcelo Boeck, Fabián Rinaudo, Luis Aguiar, Diego Rubio and Valeri Bojinov.

Capel burst on to the scene in October 2004 when he made his league debut for the Andalusian club as a 16-year-old. In total he made 126 league appearances and scored six goals for the two-time UEFA Cup winners.

Capped twice by Spain at senior level − the last of which was almost three years ago − Capel lifted the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2006 and last month made four appearances as La Roja triumphed at the U21 finals in Denmark.

Sporting and Sevilla both enter the UEFA Europa League in the play-off round, the draw for which is made in Nyon on 5 August.
