Emiliano Insúa has become Sporting Clube de Portugal's 15th signing of an extensive summer recruitment drive after leaving Liverpool FC.
The Argentina left-back, a FIFA U-20 World Cup winner in 2007, has agreed a five-year deal with the Lisbon Club. "I am very happy and anxious to start training and playing," he said. "Sporting are one of the greatest Portuguese clubs and they [always] fight for titles. I will give my very best for Sporting."
Insúa began his career with CA Boca Juniors, where his performances convinced then Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez to acquire his services in January 2007. However, Insúa made only 46 league appearances in four and a half years with the Merseyside club and spent last season on loan at Galatasaray AŞ.
Sporting are in Group D of the UEFA Europa League with S.S. Lazio, FC Zürich and FC Vaslui.
