UEFA Europa League round of 32 contenders FC Rubin Kazan have announced the appointment of Rinat Bilyaletdinov as coach.
Bilyaletdinov fills the void left by Kurban Berdyev, who last month was dismissed after 12 years at the helm. The 56-year-old's only previous experience in the dugout in Russia came with an interim spell at FC Lokomotiv Moskva in 2007. He was in charge of the capital club's reserve side before and after that stint and was also assistant coach of the Russia B team from 2011 to 2012.
"I can honestly say that Rubin's offer was unexpected," said Bilyaletdinov, father of FC Spartak Moskva midfielder Diniyar, who has been capped 46 times by Russia. "It's a huge challenge that some would spend their whole life looking for and never get the chance to attempt."
Rubin, 11th in the Russian Premier League going into the winter break, topped UEFA Europa League Group D and will face Real Betis Balompié in the last 32. The first leg takes place in Spain on 20 February, with the home return the following Thursday.
