Real Betis Balompié have confirmed the capture of Senegalese international Alfred N'Diaye, who arrives at the UEFA Europa League contenders on loan from Sunderland AFC for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old – who can operate at centre-back or in central midfield – joins Betis with the possibility of making a permanent move to southern Spain at the end of the campaign. " I came here because, despite the delicate situation the club are in, Betis are a Liga team and I want to help them stay there." The Seville-based side are five points adrift at the foot of the Liga and fully ten points from safety.

Originally with AS Nancy-Lorraine in France, N'Diaye signed for Sunderland from Turkish outfit Bursaspor last January. However, after making 16 Premier League outings, he was loaned back to Turkey and Eskişehirspor where he scored three goals in 16 Süper Lig games this term.

Despite their perilous Liga position, the Verdiblancos face FC Rubin Kazan in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 on 20 and 27 February.
