Mourinho pledges future to Porto

FC Porto have agreed a new contract with UEFA Cup-winning coach José Mourinho.

FC Porto have agreed a new contract with coach José Mourinho that will keep him at the club until 2006.

New deal
The 40-year-old, who took charge of the club in January 2002, signed the new deal after guiding the team to the UEFA Cup and Portuguese title. The contract ends speculation linking Mourinho with some of Europe’s top clubs and means he will guide them into next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.

Treble hope
Porto won the UEFA Cup for the first time in their history last month by defeating Celtic FC 3-2 in Seville. Mourinho will hope to complete a famous treble with Porto as the champions will take on UD Leiria in the Portuguese Cup final in Lisbon on 15 June.
