Not may people will ever hit a ball as well as Samuel Umtiti did on 14 February 2013 for Olympique Lyonnais at Tottenham Hotspur FC, with his finish one of the contenders in UEFA's 60 best goals poll.
Lyon may have lost 2-1 at Spurs in the first leg of their eventual UEFA Europa League round of 32 exit in 2012/13, but Umtiti made a real mark. The full-back latched on to a William Gallas clearance and smashed in an incredible swerving shot to equalise, though Gareth Bale was to hit a winner and Tottenham later won 3-2 on aggregate.
"The Tottenham goal – every time I see it, I feel something," Umtiti said. "It was a nice goal. Scoring is a bonus for me as I'm a defender. My main aim is to defend well and launch attacks well. Staying back is not a problem for me because, above all, I like to defend well. Football is taking risks in attack. For an instant, I thought I'd take a touch, but instead I hit it on the volley."
