Fomin, who is now a doubt for the UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie with LOSC Lille Métropole, started his career at FC Arsenal Kharkiv before joining Shakhtar in October 2004. He has made six league appearances this season, as well as playing in Shakhtar's UEFA Cup Group G win at Stade Rennais FC.
