Jürgen Klopp has been rewarded for Borussia Dortmund's fine start to the season with a new contract that will keep him in charge of the Bundesliga leaders until summer 2014.

The coach, 43, agreed a two-year contract extension several months ago but the Westfalenstadion club have moved quickly to tie him to the longer-term deal, with his team seven points clear in Germany's top flight having won 11 out of 13 games, losing only once.

"I am incredibly happy about the trust the club have put in me and my coaching team," said Klopp, who occupied the 1. FSV Mainz 05 helm from 2001 to 2008 before going to Dortmund. "For the second time in my career I have the good luck to work at a club where there is a lot of stability."

Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke was equally pleased with the agreement, adding: "Since you should never separate what belongs together, we have extended our contract with the coach." Klopp's charges have work to do in the UEFA Europa League, however, lying third in Group J with five points from four matches ahead of next week's home game against FC Karpaty Lviv.
