Quartet seek to rein in Rangers

Group F: Grazer AK are among four sides looking to peg back leaders Rangers FC on Matchday 2.

GAK reshuffle
Grazer AK drew 0-0 at AJ Auxerre on Matchday 1, and the Austrian champions will want to put their disappointing domestic form behind them at home to Polish club KS Amica Wronki. Coach Walter Schachner made several notable changes to his team for the game with SV Mattersburg at the weekend, although GAK still only managed a 1-1 draw.

Heavy home defeat
Amica are also under pressure, having lost 5-0 at home to Rangers two weeks ago. Coach Maciej Skorz remains optimistic, saying: "GAK are strong but if my players play as they can, we're just as good. We're going for the points, and if we get them, we're in a decent position again."

National call-ups
AZ Alkmaar received a boost before their group-stage bow at home to Auxerre, with Joris Mathijsen, Barry van Galen and Danny Landzaat called up by the Netherlands after impressing in Sunday's 4-1 Eredivisie defeat of Feyenoord. "I did not believe my ears when I heard the news," said defender Mathijsen. "But we have to get back to basics. We have to hit form against Auxerre, because that is what matters now."

Kalou experience
Meanwhile, Auxerre coach Guy Roux will keep faith with the squad that held Paris Saint-Germain FC to a 1-1 draw in Ligue 1 at the weekend. This means a place for forward Bonaventure Kalou who spent six seasons in the Netherlands with Feyenoord. "AZ have taken off since I left Feyenoord," Kalou said. "They're steady in defence and quick to counterattack. Above all we need to avoid defeat, which would put us in difficult position in terms of qualification."
