Kowalewski joined the club on loan from Ukrainian side FC Shakhtar Donetsk in June, and has now signed permanently after a mixed season in which Spartak ended tenth in the Russian Premier League - their lowest finish since 1977 - but won the Russian Cup.
The right club
"I am glad to have signed this contract with a team that suits me very much," said Kowalewski, 26. Spartak reached the verge of the UEFA Cup third round on Thursday with a 4-0 first-leg win against FC Dinamo Bucuresti. The return in Romania is on 27 November.
