Article body
FC Spartak Moskva have announced that Nevio Scala is to be their fourth coach in five months.
One-year deal
The Italian will sign a one-year contract to take over the Russian Premier League team on 8 December before officially taking charge on New Year's Day. He was previously in charge of Ukrainian side FC Shaktar Donetsk, a club he led to the domestic double in 2001/02 before departing early the next season after a dip in form.
'I am happy'
Scala, who has previously coached Parma AC, BV Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas JK, has watched his new club several times recently. He said: "I am happy to take charge of a club like Spartak." The 56-year-old replaces caretaker coach Vladimir Fedotov, who took over from Andrei Chernyshov in September. Chernyshov himself had replaced Oleg Romantsev just 84 days earlier.
Mixed fortunes
Spartak recently finished tenth in the Russian top flight, their lowest league position for more than 25 years. However, they should progress to the third round of the UEFA Cup on Thursday having beaten FC Dinamo Bucuresti 4-0 in the first leg.
