Assumed identity
The Italian body announced its decision on Wednesday following the revelation Eriberto had been playing under an assumed identity. The player's real name is Luciano Siqueira and he is four years older than his registered date of birth of 21 January 1979.
Ban likely
Chievo will be unable to field the Brazilian until an official decision is taken by the Italian authorities on his future, although legal proceedings and a ban are likely. Eriberto, who has until Sunday to contest FIFA's decision, could suffer the same fate which befell the players involved in last year's passport scandal. Those suspensions ranged from four to six months and were extended to worldwide bans by FIFA.
No surprise
Luca Campadelli, the president of the Verona-based club, said of Wednesday's decision: "We were sure something would happen because a registered player who has broken the rules can expect to be punished. He will resume playing when the suspension is lifted, if he is indeed punished."
UEFA Cup action
Eriberto first played in Italy for Bologna FC after arriving on loan from SE Palmeiras in his homeland. He moved to Chievo two seasons ago and was an integral figure as they finished fifth in their maiden Serie A campaign last term to earn a place in the UEFA Cup.
