With the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals having reached a dramatic conclusion on Thursday, UEFA.com collates ten facts and figures, shining a light on a cluster of competition firsts, indefatigable sequences and four remaining teams vying to lift the trophy for the first time.

 • The 2012/13 quarter-finals produced a competition 'first' as all eight clubs scored in the second legs. The only side that failed to find the net in both fixtures were S.S. Lazio, beaten 2-0 in their opener at Fenerbahçe SK.

• In overcoming Newcastle United FC, SL Benfica matched Club Atlético de Madrid's feat of reaching two UEFA Europa League semi-finals. They will also usurp the Liga outfit as the team to have played the most games in the competition's knockout phase. Atlético have played 20; Benfica's semi-final first leg will be their 21st.

• Fenerbahçe's 1-1 second-leg draw at Lazio was their sixth straight UEFA Europa League away fixture without defeat, equalling the competition record jointly held by Atlético, FC Porto and PAOK FC.

• Tottenham Hotspur FC became the second side to be involved in successive UEFA Europa League ties requiring extra time, Atlético having been taken the additional distance by both Liverpool FC and Fulham FC, respectively, in the 2009/10 semi-final and final.

• Chelsea FC have become the third club from England to get to the last four, while Switzerland and Turkey will be represented at the tournament's semi-final stage for the first time.

• Of the 27 goals scored in the quarter-finals, a mere three were registered by players native to the club they were representing – Swiss pair Valentin Stocker and Fabian Frei for FC Basel 1893 in the first leg, and Fenerbahçe's Caner Erkin in the second.

• In putting Newcastle 1-0 up against Benfica at St James' Park, Papiss Cissé became the first player to open the scoring in three consecutive UEFA Europa League knockout matches.

• Eduardo Salvio, who notched Benfica's late equaliser at Newcastle, was playing in his 31st UEFA Europa League encounter, equalling the all-time competition appearance record held by Falcao, his former Atlético team-mate.

• The 2012/13 campaign is the first season in which all four semi-finalists are from different member associations. Benfica's progress means Portugal have matched Spain's record of providing five semi-finalists.

• None of the four remaining teams have previously won either the UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League, and Basel and Fenerbahçe are both in a European semi-final for the first time. The former are bidding to become the first European trophy winners, or indeed finalists, from Switzerland.
