FC Basel 1893 have signed defender Marek Suchý on loan from FC Spartak Moskva subject to a medical.

Suchý will join Basel until the end of the season, though the Swiss outfit have the option to make it a permanent deal in the summer. The 25-year-old Czech international arrives as cover for Bulgaria centre-back Ivan Ivanov, who tore a cruciate knee ligament earlier this month. Basel, top of the Swiss Super League by a point, face Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC in next month's UEFA Europa League round of 32.

Former Basel favourite Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, has been named Switzerland's player of the year. The Egyptian international winger, who quit the Swiss champions for Chelsea FC last week, beat his erstwhile team-mates Yann Sommer and Marco Streller to land the prize.

The 21-year-old was unable to attend Monday's ceremony in Luzern, leaving Basel president Bernhard Heusler to collect his award. "I will pass this on to Mohamed personally," he said. "I've had to take photos all night and send them to him." Basel's Murat Yakin was honoured as coach of the year, with BSC Young Boys forward Michael Frey commended as best youngster.
