UEFA Cup entrants Dundee United FC have signed Scotland Under-21 goalkeeper Craig Samson on a one-year contract.
'Best candidate'
The 21-year-old rejected a new deal at Kilmarnock FC having slipped to third choice at Rugby Park and will now compete with Derek Stillie for a first-team place at Tannadice. The move follows an impressive trial spell and manager Gordon Chisholm is confident he has made the correct choice. "Although I have looked at other goalkeepers over the past few weeks, Craig was always on my mind. I came to the decision he was the best candidate."
Bullock departure
Chisholm has been on the lookout for new goalkeepers after last season's first-choice number one Tony Bullock joined Gillingham. Samson arrives a week after veteran Stillie moved from Scottish Premier League rivals Dunfermline Athletic FC. Dundee United were drawn against Finnish side Myllykosken Pallo-47 in yesterday's draw for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup and on Saturday began the new league season with a 1-1 home draw against Aberdeen FC, Stillie keeping goal and Samson on the bench.
