Everton FC defender Leighton Baines risks missing the UEFA Cup trip to 1. FC Nürnberg on 8 November after suffering an ankle injury.

'Week or so'
The former England Under-21 left-back hurt the ankle in a heavy challenge from a Derby County FC player during Everton's 2-0 Premier League victory on Sunday. He faces "maybe a week or so" on the sidelines according to Everton manager David Moyes.

Nürnberg goal
Baines himself told Everton's website: "My ankle is a little bit swollen. It got a kick and then I twisted it at the same time. It is a little bit of ligament damage but hopefully I will be OK sooner rather than later. The physios are trying to push me for the Nürnberg game. Hopefully I will get back as soon as possible."

Winning contribution
The summer signing from Wigan Athletic FC has played in Everton's three UEFA Cup matches so far, helping to set up the Merseysiders' second goal in their 3-1 win over Group A rivals Larissa FC on Matchday 1. He has also made eight league appearances for the Goodison Park team.
