UEFA Cup contenders SC Braga have signed Chile defender Pablo Contreras on a short-term contract until the end of the season, just a week after he was released by RC Celta de Vigo.
The 29-year-old centre-back, who has been capped 41 times by Chile, ended his seven-year association with Celta last week having made just three starts for the Spanish second-division club this season. Contreras, a former AS Monaco FC player, returns to Portugal six years after a loan spell at Sporting Clube de Portugal. He will be eligible to play for Braga when they face Werder Bremen in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup next month.
