Feyenoord atoned for a 1-0 first-leg defeat by Kalmar FF with a 2-1 away win against the Swedish league leaders, but there was no way back for Beşiktaş JK who were trounced 4-1 by FC Metalist Kharkhiv to bow out of the UEFA Cup in the first round. AFC Ajax, Olympiacos CFP and Galatasaray AŞ also confirmed their places in Tuesday's group-stage draw after building on first-leg advantages tonight.

Kalmar FF 1-2 Feyenoord (agg: 2-2, Feyenoord win on away goals)
Feyenoord recovered from their 1-0 first-leg defeat in Rotterdam with an own goal from Ermin Nouri putting them into the group stage. Georginio Wijnaldum put the Dutch club ahead on 18 minutes as his long-range strike eluded Kalmar keeper Petter Wastå, but Lasse Johansson's powerful shot from outside the area restored the Swedish side's aggregate lead. However, their joy was to be short-lived as defender Nouri steered the ball into his own net from a Feyenoord corner on 52 minutes.

AFC Ajax 2-0 FK Borac (agg: 6-1)
Ajax left it late to complete a comfortable aggregate victory, with Jeffrey Sarpong and Luis Suárez scoring in the final 20 minutes. Despite being 4-1 up from the away leg, Marco van Basten fielded a full-strength side, but the hosts were almost upstaged as Boban Stojanović headed the best chance of the first half wide for Borac. Substitute Sarpong finally put the Amsterdam club in front with a shot from distance on 71 minutes, before Suárez applied a finish to Robbert Schilder's pass deep into added time.

FC Metalist Kharkiv 4-1 Beşiktaş JK (agg: 4-2)
Two first-half goals helped the Ukrainian team register a famous win. Brazilian Jajá stuck gold when his 40-metre effort went in off the bar on 16 minutes and he then beat defender Tomáš Zápotočný to set up Marko Dević for his side's second ten minutes later. Valentyn Sliusar subsequently hit the post for Metalist, but later supplied Jajá for the third goal on 74 minutes. Seweryn Gancarczyk made it 4-0 from a 79th-minute free-kick with substitute Márcio Nobre's late effort representing scant consolation for Beşiktaş.

Galatasaray AŞ 2-1 AC Bellinzona (agg: 6-4)
Summer signing Yaser Yıldız earned Galatasaray a 2-1 win in Istanbul, heading home Lincoln's 86th-minute free-kick to put the tie well beyond Swiss debutants Bellinzona. Already 4-3 up, the Turkish outfit deservedly took a first-half lead through Milan Baroš's penalty. Gürkan Sermeter converted a spot-kick at the other end on 52 minutes to give his team a fighting chance, before Yaser finally settled matters.

Olympiacos CFP 5-0 FC Nordsjælland (agg: 7-0)
Olympiacos ensured there will be a Greek presence in the UEFA Cup group stage with a mauling of their Danish guests. Vassilis Torosidis gave them the initiative with a long-range effort on eleven minutes, and while Johnny Lundberg almost equalised shortly afterwards, it was 3-0 by half-time with Diogo scoring twice – one a header from Georgios Galitsios's assist, then a tap-in following a Fernando Belluschi pass. Andreas Dahl's second-half dismissal saw Nordsjælland further diminished, and substitute Darko Kovačević capitalised with two strikes in the last 20 minutes.

FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti 0-0 NEC Nijmegen (agg: 0-1)
The Dutch club weathered the storm in Bucharest to gain a place in the group stage for the first time. Dinamo dominated possession in the first half, and hit the crossbar through Ionel Dănciulescu on 30 minutes, although Joël Tshibamba and Jhon van Beukering both had chances on the counterattack. The Romanian side continued to press after the interval but never found the right opening, while NEC almost snatched something at the other end as Lasse Schöne struck the frame of the goal with an 83rd-minute attempt.

SC Heerenveen 5-2 Vitória FC (agg: 6-3)
Gerald Sibon and Tarik Elyounoussi both scored twice as Heerenveen eased through to Tuesday's draw. Level at 1-1 from the first leg, it was Setúbal who fashioned two early opportunities before Paulo Henrique headed the Eredivisie outfit in front after four minutes. Buoyed by their advantage, Sibon then added two more on eleven and 24 minutes to put Trond Sollied's men firmly in control. Elyounoussi's first five minutes into the second half sparked something of a revival from the Portuguese visitors as Bruno Gama and Ricardo Chaves (57 and 64) quickly reduced arrears by two. However, Elyounoussi extinguished any hopes of a comeback when he rounded goalkeeper Bruno Vale with 22 minutes remaining.

FC København 1-1 FC Moskva (Agg: 3-2)
The Danish club will play in the UEFA Cup group stage for a second time after soaking up pressure to draw at home. One up from the first leg, the hosts moved in for the kill in the first half, but Morten Nordstrand, Cesar Santin and William Kvist all missed chances, allowing Héctor Bracamonte to open the scoring for Moskva with their only meaningful opportunity – directing Kiril Nababkin's pass home with his knee. However, disaster struck for the Russian team eight minutes after the break as Aleksandr Sheshukov stumbled on the edge of his area while trying to cut out a long pass and inadvertently looped the ball into his own net. Moskva pushed for an equaliser, but Jesper Christiansen made saves to deny both Bracamonte and Aleksei Rebko.

FC Spartak Moskva 1-1 FC Baník Ostrava (agg: 2-1)
Baník gave Spartak a scare in Moscow before bowing out of the UEFA Cup, hitting the bar three times as they went in search of a tie-winning goal. Spartak had doubled their aggregate lead after three minutes, Nikita Bazhenov scoring from Aleksandr Prudnikov's assist, but their Czech guests equalised before half-time when captain Rudolf Otepka struck after David Střihavka had robbed defender Ignas Dedura. Václav Svěrkoš and Thomas Marek both rattled the woodwork after the interval, with Svěrkoš repeating the feat in second-half added time, while Aleš Neuwirth should have done better from close range.

SC Vaslui 1-1 SK Slavia Praha (agg 1-1, Slavia win on away goals)
Romanian debutants Vaslui failed to make pressure count as Erich Brabec's away goal proved vital for Slavia. The Czech team were thankful to goalkeeper Martin Vaniak as he saved early efforts from Mike Temwanjera and Ousmane Ndoye, before Vaslui broke through on 21 minutes with Lucian Burdujan heading home Marian Aliuţă's corner. Slavia responded, with Matej Krajčík testing Vaslui's Slovakian goalkeeper Dušan Kuciak before captain Brabec beat him early in the second half. Vaslui pressed relentlessly for a winner, but the best chances fell to Slavia, with Kuciak making superb stops from Jaroslav Černý and Mickaël Tavares.

KKS Lech Poznań 4-2 FK Austria Wien (agg: 5-4, aet)
Rafał Murawski scored in the last seconds to send Lech through after a frenetic period of extra time. Hernán Rengifo put the home side ahead after ten minutes, but it seemed like a Milenko Ačimovič penalty would win the tie for Austria until tireless midfielder Sławomir Peszko scored in the 85th minute to level the tie. Rising star Robert Lewandowski put Lech ahead nine minutes into extra time, but Matthias Hattenberger quickly replied with a header. Franz Schiemer's dismissal then tilted the game in Lech's favour, but it took until the dying minutes for Murawski to make their man advantage count with a shot that gave Austria goalkeeper Szabolcs Sáfár no chance.

PFC Levski Sofia 0-1 MŠK Žilina (agg: 1-2)
Brazilian striker Adauto Da Silva scored the only goal as Žilina booked their place in the group stage in Sofia. After a quiet first half, Darko Tasevski tested visiting goalkeeper Dušan Perniš before a mistake by Levski defender David Bystron allowed Da Silva to put a ferocious shot past Georgi Petkov from distance. The Bulgarian side threw caution to the wind as they surged forward in search of an equaliser, but a combination of wasteful finishing and great saves from Perniš conspired to hand them their sixth successive European home defeat.

FK Partizan 1-0 FC Timişoara (agg: 3-1)
Partizan booked themselves in for a third bash at the UEFA Cup group stage with Ivan Stevanović scoring the only goal of an open, entertaining encounter with a 20-metre shot after 70 minutes. Already 2-1 up, Lamine Diarra and Juka had both missed presentable chances for Partizan before the right-back struck, as had Stelian Stancu and Goga Dorin for Timişoara. Gheorghe Bucur fluffed a chance to equalise for the Romanian side, but Zoran Tošić also had a good opportunity for the Belgrade giants in the closing stages.

Club Brugge KV 2-0 BSC Young Boys (agg: 4-2)
Joseph Akpala and Wesley Sonck struck in the first 30 minutes to propel Club Brugge into the group phase, with the Eerste Klasse side having drawn 2-2 in Berne a fortnight ago. Akpala turned and finished well after being picked out by Nabil Dirar's ball after 17 minutes, and it would have been 2-0 not long afterwards had Marco Wölfli not saved Sonck's header. However, the striker was not to be denied for long and thumped his side's second home after a melée in the Young Boys area on 29 minutes.

Rosenborg BK 3-2 Brøndby IF (agg: 5-3)
Rosenborg prevailed with two second-half goals after an all-action game in Trondheim. Leading 2-1 from the first leg, the Norwegian side went ahead after 15 minutes through Dider Konan Ya's deflected shot, but a nice low strike from Morten Rasmussen strike and a 20-metre Jan Kristiansen shot levelled the aggregate score by the break. The tie swung back in Rosenborg's favour on 73 minutes as Per Ciljan Skjelbred finished after good work on the left from John Pelu, and they sealed victory five minutes from time, Marek Sapara converting from the spot after Roar Strand handled in the area.

AC Sparta Praha 3-3 NK Dinamo Zagreb (agg: 3-3, Dinamo win on away goals)
Dinamo recovered from losing goalkeeper Tomislav Butina after just ten minutes to prevail on away goals. Butina was replaced by 20-year-old Ivan Kelava after suffering concussion in a collision with Marek Kulič at the start of an eventful half. Chilean Pedro Morales put the Croatian side ahead with a 25-metre drive, but Kulič struck back within two minutes. Jiří Kladrubský then put Sparta ahead with a luscious chip, but Dejan Lavren restored parity after Matúš Kozáčik could only parry Mario Mandžukić's shot. Substitute Milan Badelj scored in similar circumstances after 64 minutes to put Dinamo ahead, and while Karol Kisel hit the bar for Sparta, a penalty converted by Kladrubský eight minutes from time could not save the tie for them.

FC Artmedia Petržalka 0-2 SC Braga (agg: 0-6)
There was no consolation for Artmedia as Luis Aguiar struck twice to complete a 6-0 aggregate victory for the Portuguese side. Engaged in a grim battle for survival following the withdrawal of their main sponsors, Artmedia went behind after ten minutes, with Luis Aguiar converting from the spot after Radek Dosoudil was penalised for handball, and the same player struck a splendid second from 18 metres after half an hour. The home side showed little spirit in front of barely 1,000 fans, though Brazilian midfielder Cléber drew a save from Braga keeper Eduardo with a shot late on.
