Sirmelis steps in
Barkovski has confirmed that Sirmelis, who recently left Lithuanian champions FBK Kaunas, has signed a three-year contract with the club. "The contract has been talked over, now it is time to get to work," said Sirmelis, who is on the coaching staff of the Lithuanian national team. "The team is not in the best of situations at the moment." The 47-year-old has confirmed that Ashworth's assistant Saulius Cekanavicius will stay on as his assistant at the club.
Current situation
Under Ashworth, Ventspils lost the last two Latvian titles on the final day of the season to FC Skonto, but this season has been less successful. Ventspils are third in the Virsliga, trailing leaders FHK Liepajas Metalurgs by seven points having played a game more. Ventspils are due to meet Wisla Plock in the forthcoming UEFA Cup qualifying round.
